Brrr Bremerton Rotary Reading Partner
Bremerton Schools Foundation has partnered with Bremerton Rotary, Bremerton Council PTSA, and Olympic College Foundation to bring reading to Bremerton’s Kindergarten’s. For nine weeks rotary and community members go into the kindergarten classroom and read to the students in small groups. At the end of the program, each student will receive two new books with the student’s name inside the front cover to take home.
Knight Academy Funding with Community Partners
Knight Academy is an open time in the Library from 2-4 Tues/Thurs, and 12-2 on Weds. Community tutors, retired teachers and current teaching staff are available for tutoring at these times, and students have use of all computers, flash drives, etc to complete/send assignments.
The tutoring benefit is that of a classroom extension time. With classrooms of over 30 students in many cases, the curriculum delivery occurs, but students may not have time to have each question answered, and the tutoring staff is able to accommodate the additional learning time.
It’s also a safe place for students to be and read, etc. It is monitered by the Library staff and teachers, and there are high expectations of learning behavior in the room at this time. Knight Academy is an EXCELLENT place for every student to complete homework, projects, reading, etc. It is not a “no-noise” enviroment, but interactive. All current sport athletes are also expected to spend Weds in Knight Academy, per the athletic agreement.
